Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that helps manage psychological and emotional distress by changing the way you think and behave. This therapy is based on practical strategies that are proven to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression and a whole range of anxiety disorders. The foundation of successful CBT is a collaborative relationship which is goal-orientated. Therefore, when delivering CBT I ensure that time is spent in developing a shared understanding of the problem, in terms of unhelpful patterns of thinking and acting which form a 'vicious cycle' of the problem. Once insight has been developed, we together break the problem down into smaller components and work on one part of the problem at a time. This process enables you to feel the issues are less overwhelming and develop hope that change is possible. Practical techniques are then offered for you to thinking differently about the problems and to modify your reactions. The result: freedom from old unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving and the discovery of new, creative ways of responding to situations. CBT can help one recover from anxiety and mood disorders and begin to take ownership of their recovery in an empowered way.
